09.20 to 10.15 am: TP Organics: What does the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) for Agriculture offer to the organic sector?

Speakers

    About

The European Innovation Partnership (EIP) for Agriculture is an initiative of the European Commission with the aim of bridging the gap between research and practice. Organic actors have much to contribute to the EIP for Agriculture given the sector's history of strong collaboration across disciplines and between researchers and producers.

However, the complex implementation of the EIP for Agriculture may hinder broad participation. In this session, the EIP-dossier jointly published by IFOAM EU, TP Organics, and ARC 2020 will be launched. The dossier is there to help the organic sector understand the EIP for Agriculture. In the session the main instruments of the EIP for Agriculture will be explained. First experiences in Member States and at EU level, in particular with the expert group 'optimising yields in organic farming', will be presented. The aim of the session is to encourage organic farmers and companies to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the EIP. Afterwards, participants can take home a copy of the dossier.

    10.15 to 10.45 am Coffee Break 1

10:45 am -12:45 pm: TP Organics: Workshop - Adapting the vision of TP Organics to the new challenges and policy context

    Speakers

    • Hans-Jörg Lutzeyer, European Commission, DG Research and Innovation
    • Eduardo Cuoco, TP Organics, Brussels
    • Urs Niggli, Research Institute of of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), Switzerland
    • Ilse A. Rasmussen, International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems (ICROFS)

    About

Organic approaches must receive higher priority on the research & innovation agendas of the EU and Member States, but which research topics are most important for the viability of the organic sector? Which solutions will make your company or farm more competitive? TP Organics invites farmers, companies and researchers to propose and discuss their top research priorities. The outcome of the workshop will serve as input for the revision of TP Organics' Strategic Research Agenda, which in turn will be used to lobby the EU institutions for dedicated research funding.

12.45 to 1.30 am Lunch break

AFTERNOON: TIPI: Research needs at the global level

1.30 to 2.45 am Presentation of the 1st draft of the TIPI vision

At this session, members of the TIPI council will outline the future context in which research should be carried out, present the state of the art, and provide input on global organic research and innovation needs.

2.45 to 3.15 pm Coffee break

3.15 to 4.45 pm: TIPI: Workshop on the TIPI vision for global organic food and farming research

Workshop participants will bring in their own experience, add information, and should question the hypotheses presented in the three speeches (see above).  The outcome of this workshop will feed into the work of TIPI in the development of a vision for global organic food and farming research.
